Update

Hi All

 

This week – Tuesday 7th August 2012

 

 

A few late/disturbed nights watching the Games certainly didn’t affect attendance as we saw a huge turnout last night.

 

In fact the 77 of us were part of a near record attendance – beaten only by the 82 we had one nice evening back in March.

 

Great to welcome back a few we hadn’t seen for some time – including David Morahito, Nicole Mennie, Rachel Yeo & Justine Pianko.

 

We welcomed several new members to our great squad this week – Hannes Eimer, Steph Wood, Tatum De Silva, Alex Walker & Duncan Sinclair. We trust you will all greatly enjoy & benefit from your involvement with our great squad.

 

Our session this week was 15 minutes of ‘straights’ – on the grass – which at last is starting to firm up a bit – so no slipping on the corners this week. Well done to all of you on a great session. Of course we added the usual 15 min warm up & warm down.

 

·        Thanks to those of you thoughtful enough to send apologies if for any reason you couldn’t make it this week.

 

Please just ask me if you would like any help at all with a regular training program and/or ideas on opportunities to get into a few races to test your progress.

 

 

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport.

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like.

 

A Reminder

Please keep off the main (fenced) oval when warming up /warming down

 

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

 

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (11th August) - at Jells Park. I can’t be there on that day as a number of us are involved in Road Relays at Geelong, however Chris, Tony, & Andre at least will be there – so try to attend.

 

Meet at the usual  spot, out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’ - ready to run at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time). Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

Watch the Men’s Marathon in London with lots of fellow athletics fans

 

Final Chance

 

Cheer on our Aussie Marathon Men in London on Sunday evening 12th August – from 7.30pm

 

The Olympics are fast approaching and one of the feature events on the athletics program is the Marathon.

 

Come along to watch it live on a big screen & support our Aussie men as they take it up to the Africans & the World over 42km, and enjoy a casual meal.

 

We have a dedicated room at the Dingley International, 334 Boundary Rd Dingley (7.30pm – 10.30pm), and Main Course and Dessert are included in the most reasonable price ($30), as well as coffee and tea.

·        We were saddened to hear of the recent passing of Andre Jitnah, the father of long time squad member Daniel. We extend the sympathy of all members of our running group to Daniel & his family.

 

·        Congrats to Steven Bonfadini (10K) & Gary Rooke (Half Marathon) on their great runs at Devils Bend last Sunday  - both had ‘PB’s’


I have a limited supply of running diaries for any of you who might like to keep tabs on your training/progress. Just send me a note if you’d like one. And I am happy to chat about training programs as well as review diary entries.

A great number of you now have diaries – how about starting to bring them along on Tuesday evening for me to review your progress ?
