Update - Wednesday 26th October 2011

posted 26 Oct 2011, 03:09 by Monash Running

Hi All

On a colder night – typical for Melbourne – Len took control of the session last night while I just observed – and took a few photos. With some luck I’ll have a selection of the photos on our website (www.runmonash.info ) in the next day or so.

As mentioned above, Len supervised last night’s session – 8 x 60 sec efforts with 60 sec jog recovery after each. I know – his whistle was a bit feeble – or out of tune – but at least he didn’t lose count ! Thanks for that mate.

Welcome to 2 new recruits this week  -  Jason Chua & Tina Li . We trust you both enjoyed the experience and will return next week.

Attendance this week was 45 – a terrific response, considering exams & lots of other reasons(some quite original !).

Great to see Jihane back again – again !

Would any of you who have joined us in recent weeks & have not returned since please send me advice of your intentions as soon as possible. A number in this category are progressively being removed from our mailing list if no word is received.

It’s really pleasing that many of you who can’t make it on a particular Tuesday evening for one reason or another take the small trouble to let me know – that really does demonstrate a strong commitment to the Squad.

I still have a limited supply of running diaries for any of you who might like to keep tabs on your training/progress. Just send me a note if you’d like one. And I am happy to chat about training programs as well as review diary entries.

We’ll be in action again as usual next Tuesday evening 1st November  2011 – Cup Day

·         We’re still located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1.

And we are in action every Tuesday evening without fail throughout 2011

Hill Session at Jells Park - Saturday Morning next 29th October

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (29th October) - at Jells Park – despite the fact that many of you will be competing at the new track at Albert Park in the afternoon & so not able to do the hills session with us. And I’ll be there of course.

We’ll meet at the usual  spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course. Please try to be on time.

·        I’d actually appreciate it if any who plan to be at Jells Park next Saturday morning would let me know – so I don’t go down & find I’m all alone. Although I understand already that at least Janine, Alex, & Juliette will be there so that’s a ‘quorum’

Synchrotron Tour

Many of you may be aware that while we are running around the baseball field on those beautiful Tuesday evenings, we are overlooking the Australian Synchrotron, just across Blackburn Road. The Synchrotron, one of only two in the Southern Hemisphere (bigger and better than the other one), is a particle accelerator that produces high intensity "light" (mostly X-rays) for use in a huge range of research. { I got a job there this year, so I think the place is quite special ;-) } The annual Open Day is on soon, Sunday the 27th November, so come along and see what it's all about. Entry is FREE but you MUST book onto the self guided tours (get in soon before they all fill up!) - see the website http://openday.synchrotron.org.au/

Volunteers are needed to help at the annual Marysville Marathon Festival

To be held on the morning of Sunday 27th November 2011.

Marysville locals desperately need help to run this community activity, this year being the third year the event has been held.   The only attribute needed is a willingness to assist, including directing runners along scenic forest paths, operating drink stations, start marshalling and taking entries.  Past years have proven to be a great family day (for more information, see www.marysvillemarathon.com.au).

Please contact Neil McKern (caroljoy@fastmail.fm) or Graham.Black@csiro.au asap if you are able to help support the Marysville community.
