Update - Tuesday Evening Running Group at Monash University - Clayton Campus - Wednesday 8th February 2012

posted 8 Feb 2012, 01:24 by Monash Running

This week

Another cooler evening – but excellent for running – and terrific to see such a big turnout I must say !

We had 59 of us ‘toe the line’ last night  –and the session of 200s (approx) with a shortish jog/float/walk recovery was well within everyone’s capabilities. No whistle needed for this one – so not hard for me to keep track of things this week !

I do encourage you to get in a few runs on other days of the week on a regular basis – you’ll soon notice the benefit / improvement.

Wow !! 8 new squad members last night -  must be a record for one night ! ; Steven Bonfadini, Erin Lynn, Jade Wylie, James Ong, Caitlin Callanan, Jenny Thriskos, Jacinta Barlow & Gary Rooke – hope to see you all back in action with us again next Tuesday.

And it was great to welcome back to our squad Lydia Badoer & Sarah Lenthall who had been away for an extended period. Also Alex Rodrigues, Aline Van Buiten, & Jade Homann were back after an absence as well.

We said goodbye – for 6 months – to Ben Asquith who is off to Dresden, Germany, for study reasons.

Thanks again to all who sent me apologies for their absence– much appreciated.

·        I’m continuing to try to contact those of you who are still on our mailing list – but haven’t made it of a Tuesday evening for quite some time. If you are in this category but haven’t heard from me, please take the initiative & sent me an update on your plans for 2012 as far as our squad is concerned. Gradually I’m getting to all those I haven’t seen for some time

Lost & Found

Last night when leaving I picked up a blue track suit top – size S – on the seat outside the door to our change room. I’ll bring it along next Tuesday – is it yours ?

Sorry Ramona – no sign of your drink bottle – better tie to yourself on a string !

We will be in action on Tuesday next 14th February 2012

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Sorry but the  Saturday morning Hill session WILL NOT go ahead next Saturday morning (11th February) – as many are competing that day, mainly for Glenhuntly, in the Shield Competition Finals. Good running to all !

But we will definitely be back in action on Saturday week – 18th February & again on Saturday 26th. On the 18th wwe’ll meet at the usual  spot ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP -  out the front of the cafe at Jells Park – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

You may even soon find a few new photos posted;

Monash Sport  -Discovery Day – Sunday Feb 26.

Discovery Day is a new initiative being put on by Monash Sport. They are opening their doors and showing off all of the programs and facilities that they have to offer! The main target audience is new students, but they are also targeting current students, potential students, staff, almuni and the wider community.

It will run between 2pm - 6pm & there are a number of ways clubs/groups can get involved, these include setting up an information table, doing a demonstration, or putting on a display.

I’m keen for our running Squad to have a presence on the day – so if you’d be prepared to help even if just for an hour or so please let me know. Thanks to the couple of you who have offered to help so far.

For your Diaries

The 2012 Emer Casey Fun Run will be conducted at the Monash Clayton Campus on Sunday morning 27th May (5k & 10k) runs. All proceeds go to a most deserving charity & this is one event that I’m particularly keen for all members of our squad to support. More details later.
