Tuesday Evening Running Squad at Monash Clayton

Hi All

No Olympic medalists last night – but lots of stars ! Despite the absence of many of you on account of the mid semester break we still had 45 in attendance – on another fine evening.

Next week will be quite different again – with daylight saving - so we will complete the session in daylight !

My thanks to the 25 or so  of you who sent me a note advising of your inability to attend last night – but disappointingly a great number chose not to take that small trouble.

This week – after the normal 15 minute warm up run around the campus we capably handled a good session on the grass - 4 x 60 sec efforts, followed by 8 x 30 sec efforts – followed by the usual warm down.  And for a change I didn’t lose count !

It was great to have Deb, Dennis, Nick, Amelia & Matt  rejoin us after an absence.

We welcomed yet another 2 ‘new recruits’ this week  -  Samuel Choudhury & Eugene Lee - as well as Simon Eades who will be an occasional participant in future when circumstances permit.

Would any of you who have joined us for the first time in recent weeks & have not returned since - please send me advice of your intentions as soon as possible.

I still have a limited supply of running diaries for any of you who might like to keep tabs on your training/progress. Just send me a note if you’d like one.

Lost & Found

Pleasingly – no lost / found items this week.

We’ll be in action again as usual next Tuesday evening 4th October  2011

·         We’re still located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1.

·         And we are in action every Tuesday evening without fail throughout 2011

Australian University Games – Gold Coast

Congratulations to our long time squad member – Josh Papanikolaou – on his terrific win in the 10k track at the AUG yesterday/Tuesday. In quite hot conditions Josh won clearly in a fine 31 min 50 sec.

Hill Session at Jells Park - Saturday Morning next 1st October

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (1st October) - at Jells Park – and I’ll be there.

We’ll meet at the usual  spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course. Please try to be on time

Strength and Conditioning Seminar - Free Session – Wed 21 Sept

A large contingent from our squad attended this most relevant seminar. Points that I have tried to put forward over a long period were reiterated – e.g.  importance of keeping a diary, correcting posture, maximizing what you have, hard/easy principle, aiming for incremental improvement.

Social / News

Our congrats to two of our squad members – Felipe & Carolina – on the safe arrival of daughter Sofia, on 23rd September.

Congrats also to former squad members – Michael Robinson & Felicity Williams who were married recently

Squad member Sam Gibb is off to Sydney for a few months – but he’ll be back !

Monash Sport Membership

I have a supply of flyers with me each week with details of the great benefits & services, as well as current ‘offers’ available to Monash Sport members. – take one.

Visit the Monash Sport website:

TeamMONASH Semester 2 events 2011

I have a flyer with details with me each Tuesday evening.

Geoff Watt Memorial Fun Run – Warragul – 16th October 2011

I have a supply of ‘flyers’ about this run (2.5k, 5k, 10k, Half Marathon) – which I’d encourage any of you who may be interested to run. Geoff, the father on Olympic cycling Gold Medalist Kathy Watt, died many years ago from exposure when lost in the mountains on a long training run.

As we’re keen to keep the site current, please send to me or Leanne ( of any runs or other items of interest.
