Update - 21 August 2011

posted 20 Aug 2011, 23:26 by Monash Running

My sincere congratulations to all of you who attended our session last night – you were part of a new WORLD RECORD (attendance)

There were 76 of us – beating by just 1  the old record – set back on 29th March

In fact we enjoyed an almost perfect night for running – not that cold   - & a few even  ran barefoot !. The session consisted of our 200s – for 15 minutes. In this session we do a strong effort over around 200m with a 150m approx recovery after each effort. Many of you have now sorted out who you can do the workout with for best benefit – sometimes it’s valuable to run with another of similar ability – to get the best out of yourself. Of course the 15 minute warm up & warm down were an integral part of the session as well as the run throughs over around 80/100m before finishing.

It was terrific to have a few of you rejoin us after breaks of varying periods – Pat Singh, Elyse Dudgeon, Jason Phong & Tim Fagan.

We welcomed another 4  more ‘new recruits’ this week ; Freya Berenyi, Sean Grove, Racknesh Vijayan, & Robin Westerlundh !. We trust you found the group very friendly and the run up to your expectations

Thanks to the large number of you who were unable to attend last night for a range of reasons but thought to send me an apology.

Those of you  who have joined us for the first time in recent weeks & have not returned since are asked to send me advice of your intentions please.

I have a limited supply of running diaries for any of you who might like to keep tabs on your training/progress. Just send me a note if you’d like one.

We’ll be in action again as usual next Tuesday evening, 23rd August  2011

·         We’re still located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1.

·         And we are in action every Tuesday evening without fail throughout 2011

Hill Session at Jells Park - Saturday Morning next – 20th August

Fantastic  turn out last Saturday – great to see – and everyone handled the session extremely well.

Attached a ‘group’ photo from last Saturday!

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (20 August) - at Jells Park – and I will be there, as I’ve made a late decision not to go up to Canberra for the Australian Cross Country Championships on Saturday after all.

We’ll meet at the usual  spot at 8.30am SHARP, out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course. Please try to be on time.

I hope to see a huge turn out this coming Saturday – rain or shine.

Don’t hesitate to call/email me if any questions/problems.

News/Results

·        Len Johnson is in Shenzhen, China, wearing his sports journalist hat. Here’s the latest message received from Len;

‘Hi to all from Universiade Shenzhen 2011, which should really be re-titled Universiade somewhere-near-Shenzhen 2011 - it's about a one-hour ride to town from here.
Still, our hotel is very nice and only a 10-minute bus trip from the swimming and athletics venues.
Running here is tough - hot, humid and unrelenting. And that's at 6am in the morning. It's worse later.
So I hope no one is complaining at Monash running group about the luxury of rain, hail, sleet and a wet baseball ground.
 See you soon,
 Len’
