TV's Update Wednesday 29 August 2012

posted 29 Aug 2012, 22:33 by Monash Running

This week – Tuesday 28th August 2012

No records this week – but still we had 73 in attendance – another huge turnout..

Once again the better weather was an added attraction – it won’t be too long before we’re trying to find some shade in the hot Melbourne Summer !

Lots of apologies again this week, around 25  – thanks to all of you who took the small trouble to let me know you couldn’t make it

We welcomed a few more new squad members this week – Paulina Mikulic, Gerardo Martinez, Jacob Foo,& Brian Yan

And it was great to welcome Claire Pollock, Perrine Hamel & Monika Fekete back after  absence

The condition of the oval continues to improve gradually and we managed a great session again this week – 16 minutes of 200m’s strong with a comparatively short recovery

Don’t hesitate to ask me if you would like any help at all with a regular training program or goal setting and/or ideas on opportunities to get into a few races to test your progress.

‘Tan Relays’ – Saturday 15th September 2012 (9.00am start)

In view of the successes & great experience at the Road Relays at Geelong a couple of weeks ago  we will now be entering squad teams in the Tan Relays – to be held on the Tan Track (3.8km circuit) at Kings Domain – start/finish area opposite Swan St Bridge.

All runners cover 1 lap of the tan – and those of you who participated in this event last year will have times on the board as your goal to better this time.

In order to enable me to enter teams I’ll need you to let me, Chris, or Len know next Tuesday (4th Sept) at training at the very latest  if you wish to participate. One thing that we may need to do for this event however is ask each participant to contribute towards the cost of the team entry - $12 each – I hope that isn’t a deterrent to any of you. Athletics Victoria provided free entry to our teams at Geelong - but there is a limit to this generosity.

Of course I’d be happy to hear from you before next Tuesday if you can make up your mind earlier.

We finish the morning off with a great Morning Tea get together.

As usual we will be in action on Tuesday next, 4th September  2012

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

Podiatrist Visit

I am very pleased to be able to advise all our running squad members that next Tuesday evening, 4th September, we will be visited by a very good friend of Len & I – Podiatrist -  Jason Agosta.

Jason’s proposed visit last night – 28th August - was deferred to next week due to Jason feeling off color.

Jason will say a few words to the group at 6pm sharp, before our session commences – then be available afterwards for a short time to chat to individuals about any foot & lower limb issues they may be encountering.

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again this coming Saturday morning (1st September) - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there. We’ll meet at the usual  spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) -  out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

There will be quite a few missing this week I know due to the Athletics Victoria events on Yarra Boulevard on Sunday morning

Stay for a coffee/chat after if time permits.

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport.

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

If you haven't completed a form already, please click on the link below to download a form, complete it and bring it to the next session and give it to me /TV.

I will have spare blank forms with me of a Tuesday evening. Thanks to the great many of you who have completed & returned forms to me already.
