TV's Update - Wednesday 7 December 2011

posted 8 Dec 2011, 15:02 by Monash Running

Our Running Squad 2011 Christmas celebration will be held after training (7pm) at the Clayton Campus on Tuesday next, 13th December.

Thanks to the 40+ of you have indicated you’ll be attending – I promise we’ll take it easy on you in the training session beforehand – but we will do enough to help you work up a great appetite. Thanks again to Chris & Daniel for assisting with arrangements both prior to & on the night.

I’m sure that if you haven’t booked to attend already – we can certainly fit you in on the night, but if you are in that category maybe please send me a quick note & I’ll let Chris know.

This week

Great weather last night – in fact a bit warm ! So we retreated to the hill circuit for some shade. Well done to everyone on a terrific session. Lots of improvement obvious in many of you.

Numbers were down a little – 35 this week - but I received a great number of apologies – thanks for this gesture. And some of the reasons/excuses for not attending were again quite original – more to add to my list !

There were no  new squad members this week – but a welcome visitor was Chris Winter – from Glenhuntly Aths club – a friend of a number of our squad members.

Len didn’t make it last night – other pressing activities – but he’ll be back next week for our celebration BBQ.

I haven’t got details of all those of you who ran the Sussan Women’s races last Sunday – except for Alison who ran a great 10k time

Last night after training Ramona provided us all with a tasty Nikolaus treat, which we all greatly enjoyed – here’s her story about Nikolaus;

Kids put a boot outside the door on the eve of 5th December and Nikolaus fills it with walnuts, chocolates and some other treats.
There are probably different traditions in various parts of Germany. Nikolaus is also visiting some other countries in Europe.
Here is a link to an explanation in English and a song about the whole event. In the song the boot is replaced by a plate. There is also an English version of the song.

Our Website ‘Monash University Running Squad’

As we’re keen to keep the site current please send to me details of any runs/races you’ve been part of,  or other items of interest.

I still have a limited supply of running diaries for any of you who might like to keep tabs on your training/progress. Just send me a note if you’d like one. And I am happy to chat about training programs as well as review diary entries.

We’ll be in action again as usual next Tuesday evening 13th December  2011

We’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1.

And we are in action every Tuesday evening without fail throughout 2011 - with our last session on Tuesday 20th December (but no session on Tuesday 27th).

We’ll resume in 2012 (Wow – the years are flying !) on Tuesday 3rd January

Hill Session at Jells Park - Saturday Morning next 10th December

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (10th December) - at Jells Park. And I’ll be there of course.

We’ll meet at the usual  spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course. Please try to be on time.

This will most likely be our last Saturday morning hills session for 2011 – so a big attendance would be nice

Goodbye for now

I said goodbye to Monika a week early last week – so it was nice to say goodbye for the Christmas break again last night. Also away till the New Year (we’ll be back on in action Tuesday 3rd January) are Aline, Nine, Tom, Rebecca, Shelley, Johnny and lots of others I can’t recall at this time!

Monash Sport Membership

I have a supply of flyers with me each week with details of the great benefits & services, as well as current ‘offers’ available to Monash Sport members. – take one.
