We enjoyed terrific  conditions for running last night, in fact a few even complained about the heat  - that’s Melbourne for you !

 

There were a few new faces, & one we hadn’t seen for ages, among the huge number (75) who took part in the session. A warm welcome to ‘newies’ Nick Van Agtmaul & Jonothan Elliott, & welcome back to Victoria Sapoznikoff – returning after very lengthy absences.

This week’s session was on the grass again – 8x60sec efforts, the 2 x 30 sec efforts. Enjoyed and well handled by all of you – well done

Len gain had control of the whistle as his injury issue drags on a bit too long

 

The surface on the baseball oval was fine this week – thanks to the groundsmen.

 

With the ‘Summer Athletics Season now under way a number of our squad members are racing on the track, usually of a Saturday afternoon. If any of you would be interested in trying a track race (800m, 1500m, 3000m or 5000m) just chat to me – this can be easily arranged.

·        Thanks to those of you thoughtful enough to send apologies if for any reason you couldn’t make it this week.

 

Don’t hesitate to ask me if you would like any help at all with a regular training program and/or ideas on opportunities to get into a few races to test your progress.

 

Some News

 

·        For your Diary - Our 2012 Christmas Party / BBQ – is scheduled for Tuesday 18th December – straight after our training session – so at 7pm. It’ll be held in the BBQ courtyard at the rear of the Sports Building, overlooking the ovals. This is always a great event so PLEASE do your best to attend.

Chris will start taking names very soon – there will be a very small charge to cover food etc. If any of you would like to offer to help with arrangements before & on the night – please let me or Chris know. Many hand make light work !

 

·        Kathryn is soon off to Japan for a couple of months and Amy & Tom are also going overseas for an extended period. We’ll see them all of course upon their return.

 

As usual we will be in action on Tuesday next, 6th November – despite the fact that it’s Cup Day – & I hope to a big attendance please.

 

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

 

 

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

 

 

 

Sorry – but our  Hill session WILL NOT go ahead this coming Saturday morning (3rd November), for a number of reasons – but if any of you are available/keen then just be at the usual spot (at usual time) & head out to the hill (I can’t be there this week). 

But we should be back in action on Saturday week – 10th November - & on that day we’ll meet at the usual  spot at Jells Park, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) -  out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

 

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport.

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

Movember at Monash University

After TeamMONASH's Bachelor of Mo Cultivation and Appreciation in 2011, we are back again this November with more hairy fund raising initiatives to raise awareness for men’s health. That’s right, Movember 2012 is NOW OPEN and we are calling upon all members to join us in Movember's 2012 National Uni Challenge!
