Hi All

 

This week – Tuesday 21st August 2012

 

 

Congratulations to all 83 who attended our great session last night – you created a new record ! Beating by one the previous record attendance established back in March this year of 82.

 

To say the least it was a crush in the change room – but cosy on a cold evening.

 

And I had around 20 apologies – so maybe 100 is not a pipe dream ?

 

A number of new squad members were welcomed – Derrick Koo, Chun-Yi Chang, Walter ?,Chanaka Ruwandeniya, Amanda Tabib, Matthew Thompson, Yih Ching Ong, & Paul Davidson

 

And it was great to welcome back after  absence – David Morabito, Isobel Drewett, Maeve Barlow, Jordan Lee, Sabrina Hoare, & Susie Wagglen

 

Although the oval is still soft we managed an excellent session – 8 x 60 sec (60sec recovery)  & 2 x 30 sec efforts (30 sec recovery), with of course the usual warm up & warm down

 

Don’t hesitate to ask me if you would like any help at all with a regular training program or goal setting and/or ideas on opportunities to get into a few races to test your progress.

 

 

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport.

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like.

 

A Reminder

Please keep off the main (fenced) oval when warming up /warming down

 

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

 

Hi All.

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (25th August) - at Jells Park. I can’t be there on that day as I’ll be in Adelaide for the Australian Cross Country Championships, however Chris Allan will be there to lead the way – so please try to attend.

 

Meet at the usual  spot, out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’ - ready to run at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time). Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

Last Saturday was great again, despite the weather – and the muddy sections. Things can only improve – surely !

‘Tan Relays’ – Saturday 15th September 2012 (9.00am start)

 

In view of the successes & great experience at the Road Relays at Geelong a couple of weeks ago  we will now be entering squad teams in the Tan Relays – to be held on the Tan Track (3.8km circuit) at Kings Domain – start/finish area opposite Swan St Bridge.

All runners cover 1 lap of the tan – and those of you who participated in this event last year will have times on the board as your goal to better this time.

In order to enable me to enter teams I’ll need you to let me or Len know next Tuesday at training if you wish to participate. One thing that we may need to do for this event however is ask each participant to contribute towards the cost of the team entry - $12 each – I hope that isn’t a deterrent to any of you. Athletics Victoria provided free entry to our teams at Geelong - but there is a limit to this generosity.

Of course I’d be happy to hear from you before next Tuesday if you can make up your mind earlier.

We finish the morning off with a great Morning Tea get together.
