This week – Tuesday 31st July 2012

 

Well – after the TDF we are straight into the Olympics – so lots of late/disturbed nights will continue for a couple more weeks, but that shouldn’t be a reason for you missing our Tuesday evening sessions.

 

Great to welcome back a few we hadn’t seen for some time – including Andrew Rodda who has been overseas for 8 months at Uni in the USA, Wesley Soh, James Ong, Belinda Chung, Jonathan Ting, & Alex Barber.

 

We welcomed a couple more new members to our great squad this week – Rick Watkins & Donovan Yong. We trust you will both greatly enjoy & benefit from your involvement with our great squad.

And a nice clear evening (although still cold) was most welcome.

 

This week we travelled over to the Lake circuit – and did a very strong hill/surge session – great work everyone.,

Don’t hesitate to ask me if you would like any help at all with a regular training program and/or ideas on opportunities to get into a few races to test your progress.

 

 

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport.

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like.

 

A Reminder

Please keep off the main (fenced) oval when warming up /warming down

 

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

 

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (4th August) - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there. We’ll meet at the usual  spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) -  out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

Stay for a coffee/chat after if time permits.

Last Saturday was a very ordinary day – I wore 5 layers to keep warm/dry on the bike – however what a great turnout – 26 I reckon.

Apologies for the muddy, slippery conditions – thanks to Roland & Simon for the entertainment, but sorry to see your gear get so dirty. Beats me how Helen managed to stay so mud free !

Watch the Men’s Marathon in London with lots of fellow athletics fans

 

Cheer on our Aussie Marathon Men in London on Sunday evening 12th August – from 7.30pm

 

The Olympics are fast approaching and one of the feature events on the athletics program is the Marathon.

 

Come along to watch it live on a big screen & support our Aussie men as they take it up to the Africans & the World over 42km, and enjoy a casual meal.

 

We have a dedicated room at the Dingley International, 334 Boundary Rd Dingley (7.30pm – 10.30pm), and Main Course and Dessert are included in the most reasonable price, as well as coffee and tea.

Road Relays at Geelong – an opportunity

 

In the past a great many of our squad members have taken up an opportunity to participate, with my club, Glenhuntly, in the annual Athletics Victoria Road Relays, which are normally contested on the Road circuit at Sandown Racecourse.

This year - as Sandown is unavailable – the relays will be conducted at Geelong – however the opportunity for our Running Squad members to participate is still available. Each runner will complete a 6k ‘leg’ in the event – which is to be held on Saturday week – 11th August. Please let me know by Friday this week (3rd August)  by email, SMS/phone if you’d like to be on a Running Squad team. More details will be sent to those interested next week.

 


I have a limited supply of running diaries for any of you who might like to keep tabs on your training/progress. Just send me a note if you’d like one. And I am happy to chat about training programs as well as review diary entries.

A great number of you now have diaries – how about starting to bring them along on Tuesday evening for me to review your progress ?
