This week – Tuesday 16th October 2012


Last week Len said ‘We beat the rain, we survived without TV’.

Well I was back this week – and the rain beat us (& the cold !)

There were a few new faces among the 45 who took part in the session last night. Welcome to Cintia Dotto &  Jian Yen, and welcome back to Lindsay McDonald after an extended absence.

This week’s session was 15 minutes of 200s – with a short jog/float/walk recovery – and this was appreciated especially by those in attendance who had run on Sunday in one of the races at the Melbourne Marathon Carnival – details below of those results.

The surface on the baseball oval, our main training ground, continues to improve – thanks heaps to the groundsmen.

With the ‘Summer Athletics Season now under way a number of our squad members are racing on the track, usually of a Saturday afternoon. If any of you would be interested in trying a track race (800m, 1500m, 3000m or 5000m) just chat to me – this can be easily arranged.

We said goodbye this week (for 4/5 months) to Sam Gibb, one of our long time squad members – who off to the USA for work reasons.

·        Thanks to those of you thoughtful enough to send apologies if for any reason you couldn’t make it this week.


Don’t hesitate to ask me if you would like any help at all with a regular training program and/or ideas on opportunities to get into a few races to test your progress.

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like



Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park




Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (20th October) - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there. We’ll meet at the usual  spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) -  out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

I know that once again there will be quite a few of our regulars absent this week – due to the fact that Shield T & F competition is on again.

The turnout last Saturday was great (8 of us) – given the other priorities that day/weekend

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport.

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

If you haven't completed a form already, please click on the link below to download a form, complete it and bring it to the next session and give it to me /TV.

I will have spare blank forms with me of a Tuesday evening. Thanks to the great many of you who have completed & returned forms to me already.

Pete Hardie-Porter, a much respected Monash Sport Fitness Instructor and new father of premature twin boys has been tragically diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Facing an uncertain future where he may not be able to support his new family, Pete recently appeared on the Channel 7 News seeking support from the public in the form of financial assistance. Chancellor's Cup Golf Day

 at the Spring Valley Golf Club for the annual Chancellor's Cup Golf Day. Celebrating the events 15th year, all proceeds from the event are invested directly into supporting the essential initiatives of Monash affiliated sporting clubs. The four person Ambrose format will include longest drive and nearest the pin competitions in addition to a light lunch, refreshments, gourmet barbecue and welcome pack included in your registration.
