TV's Update - Wednesday 15th February 2012

posted 15 Feb 2012, 01:32 by Monash Running   [ updated 16 Feb 2012, 03:44 ]

This week – Tuesday 14th February

Hot this week – OK in the shade – but unfortunately not all our running can be done in the shade.

Numbers were down a little –  41 of you this week, but excellent quality of course – and a great session of 8 x 60 sec efforts (60 sec jog/float recovery) was enjoyed ? by all.

Len was in charge of the whistle while I wandered around with my camera (hopefully the shots I took will hit our website in the next few days ?)

Well we didn’t have another 8 new squad members this week – but we did have 3 – a warm welcome to Tony Frantz, Katerina Vlahos & Dominique Thielemann.

Lucy was back after a long absence – but was in pretty good shape.

Also back after an absence was Nenad – who entertained us by shooting film of the squad to send home to friends in Serbia. We’ll soon be internationally famous !  Sadly – like a few others of our squad members Nenad has Uni commitments of a Tuesday evening once Uni recommences – but he will drop by whenever possible

Thanks again to all who sent me apologies for their absence last night – much appreciated.

I do encourage you to get in a few runs on other days of the week on a regular basis – you’ll soon notice the benefit / improvement.

·       If you haven’t made it of a Tuesday evening for quite some time, please take the initiative & sent me an update on your plans for 2012 as far as our squad is concerned.

We will be in action on Tuesday next 21st February 2012

In 2012, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

Guest next Tuesday

My good friend Peter Bruce, a Physiotherapist – with a special interest in sporting injuries, will visit us next Tuesday evening. 21st. So make a special effort to attend if you have any problems you’d like to ask Peter about. No lengthy ‘consultations’ – but a chance to get some initial help in dealing with an injury issue that may be troubling you.

Recent results

Our sincere congratulations to squad members ;

Perrine – who last Sunday won her age category in the Falls Creek Half Marathon

Celine – who won the 6k Fun Run at Coburg on Sunday last.

Mikhail, Michael, Amelia, Laura, & Shaun who were all part of the Glenhuntly Club team that achieved some remarkable successes in last Saturday’s Athletics Victoria ‘Shield’ finals.

Any I’ve missed ?

Squad Trivia

Currently the most common  name in our squad (active members) is Jade !

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (18th February) - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there of course. We’ll meet at the usual  spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP -  out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

Hope for a huge turnout – and maybe stop for a coffee/chat afterwards if you have time?

All welcome.

You may even soon find a few new photos posted;

Monash Sport  -Discovery Day – Sunday Feb 26.

Discovery Day is a new initiative being put on by Monash Sport. They are opening their doors and showing off all of the programs and facilities that they have to offer! The main target audience is new students, but they are also targeting current students, potential students, staff, almuni and the wider community.

It will run between 2pm - 6pm & there are a number of ways clubs/groups can get involved, these include setting up an information table, doing a demonstration, or putting on a display.

I’m keen for our running Squad to have a presence on the day – so if you’d be prepared to help even if just for an hour or so please let me know. Thanks to Dan for offering his help to date.

For your Diaries

The 2012 Emer Casey Fun Run will be conducted at the Monash Clayton Campus on Sunday morning 27th May (5k & 10k) runs. All proceeds go to a most deserving charity & this is one event that I’m particularly keen for all members of our squad to support. More details later.

I have a limited supply of running diaries for any of you who might like to keep tabs on your training/progress. Just send me a note if you’d like one. And I am happy to chat about training programs as well as review diary entries.

I’m happy to supply new diaries for 2012 if needed

Monash Sport Membership

I have a supply of flyers with me each week with details of the great benefits & services, as well as current ‘offers’ available to Monash Sport members. – take one.
