Our Website ‘Monash University Running Squad’

As we’re keen to keep the site current please send to me details of any runs/races you’ve been part of,  or other items of interest.

·        Thanks to Ji we have a great photo display (go to ‘Gallery’ on the site) from our Tuesday session on October 25th &   from our Saturday morning hill session on Saturday 5th November – well worth a look.

·        Our Running Squad 2011 Christmas celebration will be held after training (7pm) at the Clayton Campus on Tuesday 13th December.

Venue will be the outside BBQ area at the back of the Sports building – overlooking the sports fields. There will be a small charge to cover the catering –$5 head - see Chris to pay or with any queries . A number of you have booked & paid already – well done !

We are looking at possibly conducting some sort of fun race – a relay maybe – at training that night, before the celebration BBQ.

We really hope for a huge attendance at this get together, which is always an enjoyable event. Please let Chris know ASAP if you are able to attend – a huge attendance is expected.

If any of you would like to help Chris & Daniel on the night with preparations I’m sue any offers would be most gratefully accepted

This week Len was away – so I took the whistle back, but it was a week I didn’t need it anyway !. On Tuesday evening  we tackled the hill circuit around the lake for 15 minutes – a favorite of many – and it all went very well.

And numbers crept up just a little this week – with 42 of us in attendance.

We welcomed a further 2 new squad members as well – Alison Thorburn & Jason, we hope you both enjoyed the experience..

My thanks to those of you who took the small trouble involved in to letting me know you couldn’t make it for one reason or another this week. Some reasons are quite imaginative I must say.

I still have a limited supply of running diaries for any of you who might like to keep tabs on your training/progress. Just send me a note if you’d like one. And I am happy to chat about training programs as well as review diary entries.

·       Best wishes to all of you who are tackling the big Fun Run this coming Sunday morning – I’ll be keen to hear how you go.

We’ll be in action again as usual next Tuesday evening 15th November  2011

We’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1.

And we are in action every Tuesday evening without fail throughout 2011

Hill Session at Jells Park - Saturday Morning next 12th November

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead again next Saturday morning (12th November) - at Jells Park – despite the fact that many of you will be competing on the track at Mentone in the afternoon & so not able to do the hills session with us. And I’ll be there of course - if there is enough interest.

We’ll meet at the usual  spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course. Please try to be on time.

·        I’d actually appreciate it if any who plan to be at Jells Park next Saturday morning would let me know – so I don’t go down & find I’m all alone. I’m fine to be there even for just one or two of you.

·        A few more from the Monash Running Squad would be most welcome on Saturday.

Synchrotron Tour

Many of you may be aware that while we are running around the baseball field on those beautiful Tuesday evenings, we are overlooking the Australian Synchrotron, just across Blackburn Road. The Synchrotron, one of only two in the Southern Hemisphere (bigger and better than the other one), is a particle accelerator that produces high intensity "light" (mostly X-rays) for use in a huge range of research. { I got a job there this year, so I think the place is quite special ;-) } The annual Open Day is on soon, Sunday the 27th November, so come along and see what it's all about. Entry is FREE but you MUST book onto the self guided tours (get in soon before they all fill up!) - see the website
