Update Wed 20th October 2010

Hi All

What a great night for running it was last night!!

Great to see most of our Marathoners (& half Marathoners) back in action & going well - please make sure you take it very quietly until you feel you have recovered totally from those exertions.  Big attendance again last night – 55 – a tremendous result considering the large number of apologies I received.  If on any Tuesday evening you can’t make it – a note letting me know of this is always appreciated.

We were up at the lake circuit this week – 15 minutes of hill efforts – a tough but enjoyable (& very beneficial) session.

And after his sojourn in Delhi for the Commonwealth Games Len was back in action – good to see you again Mate. As well we had a couple of special guests – Chris Wardlaw ( a Monash all-time great, Olympian, & super coach) – and Kris McCarthy – (with Monash Sport – but more famously a Sydney 2000 Olympian & 2002 Commonwealth Games 800m Bronze Medallist). I hope Kris will become a regular of a Tuesday evening as back up for Len & I.

It was good to welcome Mark Coghlan back to the squad after a lengthy absence.

Lost Property – none again this week as far a I know  – well done !

NEWS

Competition available this coming Saturday - 1500m race.

A number of you have expressed some interest in trying a track race – so here’s a great opportunity for you;

My club – Glenhuntly - together with a number of other clubs based in the Southern & Eastern suburbs, will be participating in a track meet at the Knox track this coming Saturday afternoon.

Location; Knox -  Knox Park Reserve, Bunjil Way, Scoresby (Melway Ref: 73 D7)

The 1500m event (graded - so you’d be racing people of similar ability) will be held at 1.30pm (Male) & 2.00pm (Female)

Let me know if any of you are interested - I’ll be there to organise for you to get a run – a small fee is charged. You’d need to be at the track at least 30 min before the events to fix entry – and ‘warm up’.

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead this coming Saturday morning (23rd October) - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there for sure. I know some are competing in the afternoon – but if not I hope to see you in the morning on Saturday

We’ll meet as usual  at 8.30am SHARP out the front of the cafe – ‘Madelines”. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

Hoping for a sizeable turnout.

Last Saturday was a bit of a write off – shocking weather  – but this week, all should be fine

Of course we will be in action as usual on Tuesday evening next week, 26th October, and as usual we'll meet at 6.00pm for a 6.05pm sharp start -  Regardless of the Weather !

And we’re still located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from  Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. The pavilion has good toilet, shower (if needed), changing, & kitchen facilities.

If you ever have any trouble locating us just ask the staff at the Information Desk in the Sports Building – they are extremely helpful.

Team Monash

I encourage you all to seriously join Team Monash. Contact Marcia Larose Marcia.Larose@monash.edu to sort out Team Monash access. In fact contact Marcia with any enquiries about Team Monash.

Running Diaries

How are the  running diaries going ? – if any of you‘d like me have a look at & comment on your diary I’d be happy to provide some comment. I still have a few spare diaries – let me know if you’d like one.

It’s great to see many of you now appreciating the value of a few other runs each week, & keeping running diaries.  This will certainly help you handle our Tuesday sessions much more comfortably, and build your fitness base.

The Welcome Mat

You’re all to be congratulated on the way you make new members of our squad feel most welcome. Please keep this up – it’s one of the most important ways of ensuring that all participants have an enjoyable & beneficial experience – and they come back.

Any questions, or help needed ?? - just send me a note.

Please try very hard to be in good time next Tuesday evening.

Cheers
