Tuesday 15th March

posted 17 Mar 2011, 18:55 by Leanne Dyksterhuis

What a fabulous night we enjoyed this week – and with a couple of special guests to top it off !Tuesday evening’s attendance was around 65 , just short of the record from a few weeks ago of 68. But there may have been more as I’m not confident that all of you marked off your names on the attendance sheet. If you fell you didn’t – please let me know.

We did our session  of 8 x 60sec strong efforts  (60 sec recovery after each) and all the efforts were actually very close to 60sec – with no serious TV lapses (senior moments ?) this week. Of course the 15 minute warm up & 15 minute warm down were done as usual.

Thanks again to our ‘cone man’, Gordon, and also to our photographer for the evening – Dennis – whose shots should appear on our website very soon (if not there already).

We welcomed another eleven ‘newies’ this week as numbers continue to grow – Chris Chosich, Alicia Booth, Grace Kingsford, Shiamala Kumar, Alex Carthew (rejoining us after a very long break), Carrie Woo, Jessica Crawshaw, Sue Lin Tam, Jaimie Angoh, Mikaho Sakaguchi, Kie Yamanaka. A very warm welcome to all of you – and congratulations on your great participation on Tuesday evening.

And, Martin Doulton, Director of Monash Sport, participated in the session most capably. Martin mightn’t become a ‘regular’ but hopefully he’ll pop in from time to time to say hello & even to run with us again . Sincere thanks for demonstrating your genuine interest in our group Martin. Also there having a look was a good friend Prue Davison - from NIKE - and Prue was most impressed. We hope to see Prue back again in the future.

Our  Hill session WILL definitely go ahead again next Saturday morning (19th March) - at Jells Park, but without me for this week only  I’m sorry. We’ll meet as usual at 8.30am SHARP at the usual spot, out the front of the cafe – ‘Madelines’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.  After another huge turn out last Saturday I hope to match or beat those numbers this week. Look for Tarli, Chris, Alice, peter, John & co who will get things going. I’ll of course be back on Saturday week. Trust it will be a great day for you.

We also have news from one of our members.  Alice Enter, a student at Monash and long time member of our club recently played at the Inverloch Jazz festival!  Open the attachment below to see the photos.  Alice plays tenor saxophone with the Rathdown Street Big Band.  Their gigs in the last year have included Knox Senior Citizens Week, playing at Duncan McKinnon Reserve for The Relay For Life and a Soiree Night in Sunbury.  New members are welcome! Ask Alice for more details.

Monash Sport Member Seminar

Emer Casey Fun Run

For the second year Monash Sport, Clayton – and our squad -  will be hosting the ‘Emer Casey Fun Run’ – on Sunday 22nd May, at the Clayton Campus.  There will be 2 events – a 5k run/walk as well as a 10k.  Last year over $20,000 was raised from this run at Monash for the Emer Casey Foundation – and the money was directed to Melbourne’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Great Ocean Road Marathon Festival

Check out the GOR marathon events, coming up in May.  Courses range from 6.5 km to 45 km along some spectacular scenery.  Our sibling club Glen Huntly is involved in organising the event and it would be great to see a big turnout from Monash as well.  Find extra information in the pdfs attached to this blog.
