Training - Tuesday 12th Feb 2013

Hi All 

Yet another fabulous night for running on Tuesday – and the roll up was great. Attendance was 62 and at this stage of the year – after 6 sessions - our numbers total 295, compared to 235 at the same stage in 2012 & 191 after 6 sessions in 2011.

We welcomed 6 more new members this week – Anton Tarasenko, Jeremy Anderson, Meng Lor, Hong Lor, Lieven Huang, & Suraj Gupta ( If any of you know Suraj, Lieven, or Anton would you please ask them to provide me with their email addresses ?)

It was great to welcome back Amy Pollock-Hall & Tom Castle, returning after an overseas trip, as well as the elusive Jihane Homann, after a longish break.

This week we again split into 2 groups after the usual warm up. The majority, those who had already done the Time Trial last week, did a 15 Minute session of ‘straights – and performed really well. A further 6 did the T/T this week

The Time Trial (Week 3)

This week 6 undertook the trial – so we now have had 71 participants over the 3 weeks.

As mentioned - the idea of the time trial (2Km) is to give you all a base for comparison when we undertake a further trial in about 8 to 10 weeks time (At this stage I have in mind Tuesday 9th April for the next trial).

Over the ensuing period the idea would be for you to be motivated enough to train just a little harder, and with focus, in order to try to demonstrate improvement when we do it again.

Let me or Len know if any help needed in this regard.

Anyone who missed out this time should participate in the April run – then for comparison I hope to do another one in say July.

O’ week Festival at Monash Clayton

Date: Monday 25th February - Thursday 28th February 2013
Time: 11am - 3pm each day

We have been invited by Monash Sport to have a presence in the Monash Sport marquee during ‘O’ week

This will be a tremendous opportunity for our Running Squad members to publicise us while meeting students new to the University environment. We will have a supply of squad promo flyers for distribution as well as flyers for my club – Glenhuntly – the preferred aths club for Monash students & staff.

Great Ocean Road Marathon weekend 18/19 May 2013 – an opportunity

Each year, on behalf of my club, I proved a total of around 40 persons as helpers on the GOR Marathon weekend – and we have a great time. 

Each helper is provided with 2 night’s accommodation at Apollo Bay –as well as $ to cover meals etc. My club benefits by receiving a handy fee for providing the helpers. Over the past few years a number of members of our Monash Running Squad have been part of the team – and that opportunity is available for a few again this year. Let me know if you’d be interested & I’ll supply details. (TV)


As usual we will be in action on Tuesday evening next, 19th February – ready to run at 6pm

In 2013, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above. 


Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our next Hill session will be on Saturday next,16th February 2013 - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there.

We’ll meet at the usual spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) - out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

We had a record attendance last Saturday - 26 of us – but little competition on for our Aths club members on the weekend certainly made a big difference.

There is competition for some again this Saturday – but I still hope for/expect a big group at Jells Park in the morning.

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport:


All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!
