This Week - Tuesday 1st October 2013

posted 2 Oct 2013, 19:48 by Monash Running
Hi All,

Once again – after a threatening day – we enjoyed another great night for running this week.

Attendance was down a little – 65 on Tuesday – however I did receive a considerable number apologies for which I’m most grateful.

We were back on the Hill circuit again this week – a great venue on the colder (& damp) evenings. This is a most popular work out for the majority - but not for all – but then I can’t please everyone all the time !

The session consists of 16 minutes running around the circumference (around 300m) of the small lake at the top of the Campus . In each lap there are 3 efforts – 2 on hilly sections, the third flat.

Of course there’s the mandatory Warm up/Warm down, at least 15 min each, but more encouraged if time – esp for the warm down

We had an 4 more new members join us this week - Nathalie Uwamahoro, Keith Vanhaltren, Karin Svanfeldt & Ling Fen. And it was nice to have Prasad rejoin us.

We welcome all of you to our great squad and hope you enjoyed the experience.

· In recent weeks we have welcomed lots of new potential squad members to Run Monash. If you are one of these – but have not returned since your first night please let me know by return email if you will be back. I really can’t keep people on the mailing list who don’t intend to participate with us on a regular basis.

Thanks again to those who can’t attend who send me an ‘apology’ – as I’ve said this demonstrates more than just a casual involvement in our ‘Run Monash’ squad.

Would you all please make a special effort to mark off/highlight your name on my attendance list each week as that’s the only way I have of keeping track of attendance numbers.

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our usual weekly Hill session will be on Saturday next, 5th October 2013, at Jells Park & I’ll be there. However I know there will be a few away due to the Glenhuntly Club ‘Open Day’ in the afternoon – let me know if you’d like details of that.

We’ll meet at the usual spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) - out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

Great turn out for this week’s hills session (Sat 28th) & a special welcome to ‘newies’ – Kathryn, Tom, Natasha, Conor, Cynthia, & Ian’s nephews

Hope to see you all next Saturday morning – & in large numbers

News

· Get well soon wishes to our ‘Gun’ runner – Lieven Huang. Lieven had a bike crash last week which resulted in his arm being broken in 2 places. So, sadly, no Melbourne Marathon for him.

· With the Melbourne Marathon & supporting races just a little a week away I wish you all good luck in your final preparations. Look for me at the drink station at the 7k point in the marathon as you fly by.

· Geoff Watt Memorial Fun Run – 27th October 2013 – at Warragul

2.5k, 5k, 10k, Half Marathon events

See details at the foot of this Update – I strongly urge Run Monash members to seriously consider participating in one of the events

www.geoffwattrun.com.au

As usual we will be in action on Tuesday evening next week, 8th October – ready to - run at 6pm SHARP

In 2013, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

Time Trials – 2kms

We’re planning the next Time Trial for Tuesday evening November 26th – so a little under 8 weeks for all of you to get in a good preparation & chalk up a big improvement on your current best time for this most popular run.

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport.

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

If you haven't completed a form already, please click on the link below to download a form, complete it and bring it to the next session and give it to me /TV.

I will have spare blank forms with me of a Tuesday evening. Thanks to the great many of you who have completed & returned forms to me already.
