This week - Tuesday 14th January 2014

Hi All

Despite the oppressive weather during the day, the 38 of you of you who attended this week’s session, on Tuesday 14th January, enjoyed running most of the session in the shade.

Attached are some ramblings about heat (Thanks to my friend Paul Ford)

Of course we’ll be back in action next Tuesday evening 21st January 2014 – ready to run, at 6pm SHARP.

We hope for much kinder weather next week

In 2014 nothing has changed, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & for handy parking - enter from Ring Road East & find a spot along the road around the back of Oval 1(Wellington Rd end). Only a short walk from there to the baseball pavilion.

New & potential Run Monash members please let me know if you’d like more detailed directions

There is no parking at the rear of the pavilion – or on the gravel road above. Parking is very handy however in other nearby areas & is free after 4pm.

This week – Tuesday 14th January 2014

Considering the very hot weather I was extremely pleased to still see a big turnout & very sensible measures taken in the heat.

We found that we were able to dodge most of the direct sun by concentrating our session as much as possible on the western side of the baseball field – where it was nice & shady.

With Len at the whistle we did 8 x 60 sec efforts followed by 2 x 30 sec efforts – and everyone was most sensible, backing off & even cutting the session a little short as necessary.

Jochem Van Kempen & Rachel Yeo reappeared after long absences – welcome back to you both!

· In recent times we have welcomed lots of new potential squad members to Run Monash. If you are one of these – but have not returned please let me know by return email if you will be back. I really can’t keep people on the mailing list who don’t intend to participate with us on a regular basis.

Thanks to those who can’t attend who send me an ‘apology’ – this demonstrates more than just a casual involvement in our ‘Run Monash’ squad.

Gradually our overseas squad members who have returned home to celebrate Christmas & the New Year will be back = boosting our numbers considerably. We look forward to welcoming you all back in 2014.

· Would you all please make a special effort to mark off/highlight your name on my attendance list each week as that’s the only way I have of keeping track of attendance numbers.

Proposed Thursday evening running session.

We’re looking at trialling an informal Thursday evening ‘Run Monash’ training run that would start at around 5.30pm on the Clayton Campus. Anyone who might be interested please try to attend a short meeting before next Tuesday’s session (at 5.45pm) to discuss this initiative.

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

The next ‘TV’s Hill session’ will be on Saturday next, 18th January 2014, at Jells Park, and I’ll be there. I know quite a few again have competition on Saturday afternoon so I expect a reduced number of you to attend.

Of course we’ll meet at the usual spot next Saturday, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please be on time) - out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’.

Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.
