This week – Tuesday 9th April 2013 – Highlight - our second 2km Time Trial

posted 12 Apr 2013, 00:24 by Monash Running
As usual we will be in action on Tuesday evening next week, 16th April – ready to run at 6pm

In 2013, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

This week – Tuesday 9th April 2013 – Highlight - our second 2km Time Trial

Following up on the first Time Trial – held on 29th January – last night a remarkable 84 of you tested yourselves over 2k.

Some stats on last night;

* Total attendance was 88 – a new attendance record – with 84 undertaking the Time Trial

* Of the 69 who did the first T/T – 35 were there last night. There is a range of reasons for the absence of the other 34

* Of the 35 who were doing the T/T for the second time, remarkably 28 improved on their first efforts. Most, if not all, of the 7 who missed out on improving their times had pretty good reasons, of which I’m aware.

I plan to have all the results collated & ready for perusal next Tuesday evening.

We welcomed 11 more ‘newies’ this week - Miriam Wan, Huang Yuhan, Lorenzo Periera, George Frantz (joining brothers Ben & Tony),Kim Parshong, Clement Wong, Matt Larkin, Andrew Burns, Sam Dwyer, Kimia Maasoomi & Peter Nguyen - we trust you all greatly enjoyed the experience. Of these – 4 failed to complete Waiver Forms – which I’’ chase up next week.

And great to see a few return after lengthy absences – Justine Pianko, Sam Gibb, Jacinta Barlow, Ainsley Crouch, & Rachel Shirlow

Thanks again to those of you who took the small trouble to send an apology for being unable to attend the session.

Special thanks to my great team – Len J, Chris A, Peter B, & Gordon N for setting up the 3 Time trial circuit – and special thanks to Len for again arranging the clock

We plan to do a further trial in late June to further monitor changes in your level of fitness

An Opportunity to run in a Cross Country Race

On Saturday 27th April Athletics Victoria will be conducting Cross Country Relays at Jells park, Glen Waverley (6k ‘legs’) & if there is enough interest from Run Monash members we’ll enter a couple of men’s & women’s teams. This will be done in conjunction with my club (& Len’s) – Glenhuntly.

This is a great event – most enjoyable – and awe have a great afternoon tea after the races.

Chat to Len or I if you want more details – I will have a sheet with me next Tuesday, as well as Tuesday week, for you to record your interest on .

· So far only 2 have indicated interest – Dan Jitnah & Ivan Kiriakov

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park – 13th April - All welcome !

Our usual weekly Hill session will be on Saturday next, 13th April 2013 - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there. And as far as I know there’s not much on to keep you away.

We’ll meet at the usual spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) - out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

We had what I think was a record turnout this week/yesterday – 30 – fantastic numbers.

Next Saturday will again be big I’m sure – see you on all then .

Cheers

Our Name!

Officially we are the ‘Monash University Running Group’ – but in normal conversation referred to as ‘Run Monash’.

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport:

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

If you haven't completed a form already, please click on the link below to download a form, complete it and bring it to the next session and give it to me /TV.

I will have spare blank forms with me of a Tuesday evening. Thanks to the great many of you who have completed & returned forms to me already.
