Hi All

As usual we will be in action on Tuesday evening next week, 7th May – ready to run at 6pm

In 2013, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

This week – Tuesday 30th April 2013

On a quite perfect evening for running we stayed on the grass, doing our session of 200s, after of course the usual 15 minutes warm up & followed by a good warm down around the Campus

Numbers this week were again huge – but just a little down on recent weeks – there were 75 of us !

Just on attendance – would you all please make a special effort to mark off/highlight your name on my attendance list each week as that’s the only way I have of keeping track of attendance numbers.

Still no really cold/wet nights to test us – but please don’t let those nights put you off when they do come – if I’m prepared to stand in the wet/cold the least you call do is support my efforts. !

We welcomed another 6 new squad members this week – Sarmi Munuganci, Tessa Bojan, John Baker, Sarah Kneebone, Jack Thompson, & Bogale Tadesse (our first Ethiopian member – I reckon), we hope you all enjoyed the experience & will be back.

It was particularly pleasing to see Alex Howard return after maybe a couple of years absence from the Squad..

Thanks again to those of you who took the small trouble to send an apology for being unable to attend the session & I do greatly appreciate that. As usual reasons/excuses were varied – & some were even quite original !

Time Trial Number 3 – is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday 25th June, so please note your diaries now.

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our usual weekly Hill session will be on Saturday next, 4th May 2013 at Jells Park, after a week’s break, and I’ll be there. And there’s not much on to keep many of you away.

We’ll meet at the usual spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) - out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

See you on all again next Saturday morning I hope .

Great Ocean Road Marathon weekend 18/19 May 2013

I’ll have entry forms available of a Tuesday evening – there is a terrific range of races for you to choose from if you’d like to participate.

Athletics Victoria Road Relays – 6k ‘Legs’ – at Sandown race track – Sat 11th May

Depending upon interest I’ll enter Run Monash Teams – M & F – in these relays. So please let me know by return email – before this coming Sunday May 5th – if you’d like to run.

Our Name!

Officially we are the ‘Monash University Running Group’ – but in normal conversation referred to as ‘Run Monash’.

Running Group Waiver Form – A message from Monash Sport.

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

If you haven't completed a form already, please click on the link below to download a form, complete it and bring it to the next session and give it to me /TV.

I will have spare blank forms with me of a Tuesday evening. Thanks to the great many of you who have completed & returned forms to me already.

News from Monash Sport

Get Active Week - 6 to 12 May, all Monash campuses

Monash Sport will be hosting a number of events across Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton, Gippsland, Parkville and Peninsula campuses, as well as making a number of existing service offerings free of charge for Monash students and staff members. All activities are free to get involved in, and we encourage all students and staff to make the time to Get Active as a part of this week long event. Although we ask that anyone that does participate to bring along their Monash student or staff card, and register via the links on our website.

Mother's Day Classic - Sunday May 12, Alexandra Gardens, Melbourne

Breast cancer strikes one in nine Australian women. The Mother's Day Classic is the biggest community fundraising event for breast cancer in Australia. With over 80,000 people participating nationally, this walk/run event gives people the chance to make a real difference to the lives of those diagnosed with breast cancer. The Melbourne event involves a 4km and 8km walk and run around Alexandra Gardens and the Tan Track.

Emer Casey Fun Run - Sunday May 26, Monash University, Clayton Campus

The Annual Emer Casey Fun Run proudly sponsoring the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre will again take place on 26 May 2013 at Clayton Campus, Monash University in aid of Ovarian Cancer. Registrations are now open, it's only $25 if you register online, $30 if you register on the day.
