This week – Tuesday 10th September 2013

posted 16 Sep 2013, 03:40 by Monash Running
Hi All

Time Trial night (Number 4 for 2013) and what a great night for it ! We had a total attendance of 76, with 70 of you participating in the 2km time trial – see outcomes below.

My special thanks to Len & Chris for laying out the course & to Ben Toomey at Soleus for the loan of the timing clock again.

The mandatory warm up/warm down was undertaken – at least 15 min each – but more encouraged if time – esp in the warm down. However it always amazes me how a few can fit a 15 minute warm up /warm down into around 10 minutes !

We had five more ‘newies’ join us this week – Shenjun Zhong, Lisandro Kaunitz & Sandra Superina, as well as Cameron & Rami (who didn’t completer Waiver forms for me so I have no contact details for those 2). Great at that Tatum was back after a 'break'.

We welcome you all to our great squad and hope you enjoyed the experience.

Thanks again to those who can’t attend who send me an ‘apology’ – as I’ve said this demonstrates more than just a casual involvement in our ‘Run Monash’ squad.

Would you all please make a special effort to mark off/highlight your name on my attendance list each week as that’s the only way I have of keeping track of attendance numbers.

Details of the great efforts of those of our squad members who participated in the Burnley Half Marathon on Sunday last – 8th September are on our website as well as our facebook.

Time Trials – 2kms

T.T. No.4 was held this week – fortunately in quite good conditions. We had 70 of the squad actually do the Time Trial and of these 42 had run one or more of the earlier trials so they had a time to chase. Very pleasingly 20 of these 42 improved their ‘PBs’, with all of the others very close.

Times etc will be on facebook – and our website - as soon as possible.

* If any of you who missed the TT this week would like to do it next Tuesday (17th) I can arrange that (depending upon the weather) – but it would be on the baseball field. Just ask me on Tuesday night.

* At this stage I’m planning the next Time Trial for Tuesday evening November 26th – so a little under 11 weeks for all of you to get in a good preparation & chalk up a big improvement on your current best time for this most popular run.

AV Tan Relays (3.8k circuit) – an opportunity for Run Monash members – last chance !

The Athletics Victoria Tan Relays will be held on Saturday, 21 September.

A number of you will be running in Glenhuntly teams, but we will also enter as many Monash teams as we have runners.

However I need to know numbers as entries close on 16 September. Effectively, that means you need to let me know by Saturday (14th) of this week if you’d like to have a run on one of our teams

Several of you have already put your names down – Dan Jitnah. Chris Culhane, Nine Mok, Graham Black, Simon Eades, Alan Irwin, Katrina Cornish, Sarah Milenko, Marita Downes & Sandra Superina.

It's one lap of Melbourne's famous Tan Track, starting from the horse troughs opposite Swan St Bridge.

As usual we will be in action on Tuesday evening next week, 17th September – ready to - run at 6pm SHARP

In 2013, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our usual weekly Hill session will be on Saturday next, 14th September 2013, at Jells Park & I’ll be there.

We’ll meet at the usual spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) - out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

Great running from all of you who did this morning’s half marathon – those hills do pay off!

Hope to see you all again next Saturday morning – & in large numbers

Glenhuntly Athletic Club “Open Day” - 5th October 2013

Some details are in the attachment – there will be a range of events – including a 1 Mile race – and all interested members of Run Monash are warmly invited to participate. It will be a most enjoyable activity – and will give you a ‘taste’ of track running. See me or Len if any more details needed.

Cheers
