Latest from TV - Thursday 24 January 2013

A lovely night for running so, amongst other reasons because Ly had left his shoes at home, we stayed on the grass – for a terrific session of 8 x 60 sec efforts (60 sec recovery) and 2 x 30sec efforts (30 sec recovery). A few even ran barefoot – great to see for a change. And I didn’t lose count !

Len was not available last night – a rare occurrence !

There were 4 new members this week – Colin Lichtwark ( & 2 family member spectators), Sarah Elliott, Nicole Au, & Andras Nemes – we now have 2 members of our squad named Andras ! And it was great to welcome Chris G back to the fold after a break.

Attendance was again excellent - there were 44 of us, marginally up on last week - & lots of apologies – which I do appreciate receiving.

After 3 weeks last year our total attendance was 91 – against 130 for the first 3 weeks this year – great numbers – well done !

Some News

Time trial – next Tuesday evening

On Tuesday 29th January we’ll have you all run a strong ‘time trial’ over 2Km on the grass.

Then we’ll repeat this at the end of March/early April & see how your results have changed. This won’t be a race – except perhaps with yourself.

Very pleasingly I can say that the Monash Uni Ground Staff have kindly agreed to us using the perimeter of the main ovals for this exercise – so a much more friendly place to have a ‘hit out’.

Thanks to Caz from Monash Sport for arranging this.

So please make a special effort to attend on 29th – however if you can’t, I can have any who miss out do their run the following Tuesday, but on the baseball oval (which will be fine).

Congrats to Tatum, Andrew W, & Chris C for successfully completing ‘Tough Mudder’ last weekend

‘O’ week Festival at Monash Clayton

Date: Monday 25th February - Thursday 28th February 2013
Time: 11am - 3pm each day

We have been invited by Monash Sport to have a presence in the Monash Sport marquee during ‘O’ week – so I’m looking for help in this regard.

This would be a tremendous opportunity for one or more of our Running Squad members to publicise us while meeting students new to the University environment. We will have a supply of squad promo flyers for distribution as well as flyers for my club – Glenhuntly – the preferred aths club for Monash students & staff.

Your ‘shifts’ can be for any period you can spare – even if just for an hour or so one day.

Don’t rush me with offers.

As usual we will be in action on Tuesday evening next, 29th January – ready to run at 6pm.

In 2013, as usual, we’re located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. You can park at the rear of the pavilion if space – or on the dirt road above if you like

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our next Hill session will be on this coming Saturday - 26th January 2013 - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there.

We’ll meet at the usual spot, ready to run, at 8.30am SHARP (please try to be on time) - out the front of the cafe – ‘Madeline’s’. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

We should be pretty big in numbers this week – with no competition on for our Aths club members that weekend.

Running Group Waiver Form

A message from Monash Sport:

All participants of the Running Group are required by the University to complete a waiver form. This form has a number of purposes. It firstly acts as a waiver to advise participants of the potential risks involved in the activity. It will also provide Monash Sport with valuable statistics in regards to who (student/staff/alumni/community) is participating in this activity. The University is requesting information on who is participating in all of Monash Sport's programs so this will assist Monash Sport in their reporting back to the University about student, staff and alumni usage. The form also provides an emergency contact point should anything happen. Hopefully we never need to use this information though!

If you haven't completed a form already, please click on the link below to download a form, complete it and bring it to the next session and give it to me /TV.

I will have spare blank forms with me of a Tuesday evening. Thanks to the great many of you who have completed & returned forms to me already.
