26th October 2010 Mona-Fartlek Session

posted 27 Oct 2010, 18:19 by Monash Running

Hi All,

Exams & study knocked our numbers around this week – but we still had 36 – great work!!!

Additionally I received around 30 apologies – sincere thanks for that. But another 30 or so who didn’t turn up also failed to let me know – let’s try to improve in that area eh?

If on any Tuesday evening you can’t make it – a note (email or SMS) letting me know of this is always appreciated.

·         The old favourite – ‘Mona Fartlek’ – was our session this week – it really is quite popular amongst our ranks even though it’s a tough one!

Lost Property – none again this week as far as I know  – well done again!

NEWS

Competition available this coming Saturday - 800m & 5000m races.

A number of you have expressed some interest in trying a track race – so here’s a great opportunity for you;

My club – Glenhuntly - together with a number of other clubs based in the Southern & Eastern suburbs, will be participating in a track meet at the Frankston track this coming Saturday afternoon.

·         Location; Ballam Park Athletic Track, Benanee Drive, Frankston (Melway Ref: 103 B7)

The 800m event (all graded - so you’d be racing people of similar ability) will be held at 2.00pm (Female) & 2.30pm (Male) & the 5000m event  at 4.40pm (All)

Let me know if any of you are interested - I’ll be there to organise for you to get a run – a small fee is charged. You’d need to be at the track at least 30 min before the events to fix entry – and ‘warm up’.

Len is off again – this time to China – for 4 weeks – covering the Asian Games

We hope he’ll have time to send us an occasional update – for the website.

For your Diary

Some early notice of our proposed Christmas celebration – at this stage planned for Tuesday evening 21st December – after training – so at around 7pm. It’ll just be a BBQ – with salad etc. Cost to each around $5. I do hope for a huge attendance – to cap off a tremendously successful & enjoyable year. But more on this later.

Saturday Morning Hill Session at Jells Park

Our  Hill session WILL go ahead this coming Saturday morning (30th October) - at Jells Park, and I’ll be there for sure. I know some are competing in the afternoon – but if not I hope to see you in the morning on Saturday

We’ll meet as usual  at 8.30am SHARP out the front of the cafe – ‘Madelines”. Enter Jells Park from the entrance in Waverley Rd extension – opposite the Glen Waverley Golf Course.

Last Saturday the turnout was small – but select, just 4 plus me. Hoping for a few more this week.

Some photos from last week are here; www.runmonash.info/gallery

Of course we will be in action as usual on Tuesday evening next week, 2nd November (Cup Day), and as usual we'll meet at 6.00pm for a 6..05pm sharp start -  Regardless of the Weather !

·          And we’re still located at the Baseball field, & using the pavilion over there. Access by car is quite good & parking is very handy - enter from  Ring Road East & go around to the Baseball field along the road  around the back (Wellington Rd end) of Oval 1. The pavilion has good toilet, shower (if needed), changing, & kitchen facilities.

If you ever have any trouble locating us just ask the staff at the Information Desk in the Sports Building – they are extremely helpful.

Running Diaries

How are the  running diaries going ? – if any of you‘d like me have a look at & comment on your diary I’d be happy to provide some comment. I still have a few spare diaries – let me know if you’d like one.

 ·        It’s great to see many of you now appreciating the value of a few other runs each week, & keeping running diaries.  This will certainly help you handle our Tuesday sessions much more comfortably, and build your fitness base.

The Welcome Mat

You’re all to be congratulated on the way you make new members of our squad feel most welcome. Please keep this up – it’s one of the most important ways of ensuring that all participants have an enjoyable & beneficial experience – and they come back.

Any questions, or help needed?? - just send me a note.

Please try very hard to be in good time next Tuesday evening.

Cheers,

TV
